Fortuneteller. 4"x5" color negative, pigmented ink print on fabric

A fortuneteller I met in Croatia. The photograph was taken from a screen during a Skype conversation, scanned, re-photographed, scanned and re-photographed in order to capture the moiré patterns on the screen. Fortuneteller points to photographic circulation today - an endless string of copies of copies of copies - a mise en abime of easy image making that brings the viewer not closer to the subject, a real human being, but quite far from it. The image is all but dead representationally, at the end of the line, inhabiting the border zone between recognition and unintelligibility.
